If I stand
So if I stand, let me stand on the promise
That you will pull me through,
And if I can’t let me fall on the grace
That first brought me to YouRich Mullins

No.
How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?
Very often.
My brother and I have debated for hours about the importance of saying “no.” We are Carribean and Christian; we say yes to everybody in those two spheres. Or at least we did.
He is so passionate about it that he even wants to write a book on it. Looking back, we both regret the times when we should have said “no” but didn’t. Saying “Yes” did defer our dreams. Saying “Yes” killed our hopes. Saying “no” is much easier now, and it has helped us lead a calmer and more peaceful life. We have learned to remove people from our lives who do not respect our boundaries, and this has made an enormous difference.

From a stranger
What was the best compliment you’ve received?
It was the 90s, and I was probably out with a friend, which was a rare occasion due to my strict upbringing. I couldn’t have been older than 14 years old. I cursed, and an older white man heard me. He said to me, “you are too beautiful to let those words come out your mouth.” It still bothers me to this day. I felt like he was speaking to my soul. I believed in Proverbs 18:21. He called out my cognitive dissonance at 14, It remains the best compliment I have ever received because it was never meant to flatter me.
